A new study suggests there may be links between Viagra’s active ingredient and the development of heartburn.
The research, published in the, was presented at the Royal College of Pharmacy’s annual conference on Thursday, October 21.
The researchers looked at 58 patients who had been prescribed Viagra for more than a year and found the drug increased heartburn symptoms as well as the likelihood of a heartburn with acid reflux or heartburn that doesn’t resolve on its own.
Researchers also found that taking the drug increased the number of heartburn-related deaths.
“We think this may be because our patients are experiencing more frequent heartburn symptoms than we would think,” said Dr. Steven Nissen, professor of medicine and head of the Pharmacy Practice Unit at the University of California, San Francisco.
Nissen and his colleagues believe it may be linked to a combination of factors, including heartburn symptoms, a condition in which heartburn occurs more often than not, and the effect of nitrates.
Viagra, which is produced by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, is an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. It is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
But the study’s authors said the drug may also play a role in the development of a heartburn that doesn’t resolve on its own. “We believe it may be linked to a combination of factors,” said Nissen.
The researchers noted that one of the two participants in the study suffered from an autoimmune condition that can cause the stomach to get rid of acid, leading to heartburn.
Previous research has suggested that Viagra may also cause heartburn, with some people experiencing it more than others. However, that study is only the first in the ongoing study and the authors said the results were reassuring.
“These two findings confirm the results of previous studies and demonstrate that this drug may be linked to the development of heartburn,” said Nissen.
A study led by the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in Seattle found that men who were taking Viagra for more than a year and a half were more likely to develop heartburn, and that those taking it were also more likely to develop heartburn that didn’t resolve on its own.
The researchers also found that taking Viagra increased the number of heartburn-related deaths.
Viagra is a PDE5 inhibitor that relaxes the muscles in the walls of the blood vessels in the heart. This relaxes the muscles, which increases blood flow to the heart, causing it to work harder.

In the study, the researchers looked at a total of 58 men with heart problems. The group taking the drug was more likely to develop heartburn that didn’t resolve on its own.
